The MRO Gravity/Radio Science (GRS) Radio Science Digital Map (RSDMAP) product was designed for geoid, isostatic anomaly, Bouguer anomaly, or other digital maps derived primarily from Radio Science data.
RSDMAP files are created at the institution conducting the science analysis from radio tracking, vertical sounding, in situ, and/or other measurements. Each digital map typically requires data from a large number of latitudes and longitudes, so that RSDMAP files will be issued infrequently and on schedules which cannot be predicted.
Due to the scope of the product, information specific to each RSDMAP is found in its respective detached label.
GRS RSDMAP products have the following file names:
gtMRO_ffff_nnnn_cccc.IMG (with detached PDS label)
where:
g = the generating institution
G = Goddard Space Flight Center
J = Jet Propulsion Laboratory
t = type of mission data represented
G = gravity field
T = topography
M = magnetic field
MRO = 3-character spacecraft modifier
ffff = 4- to 6-character modifier to indicate the degree and order of the solution for the gravity field, topography or magnetic field
nnnn = 4- to 8-character modifier indicating the type of data represented
cccc = 2- to 4-character modifier to indicate the degree and order to which the potential solution (gravity, topography, or magnetic field) has been evaluated. In the case of the error maps for the gravity anomalies or geoid, this field indicates to which maximum degree and order the error covariance was used to propagate the spatial errors.
In ODE, RSDMAP products have the following Product IDs:
GTMRO_FFFF_NNNN_CCCC.IMG
There are three products whose Product IDs do not match their product names: GGMRO_120_ANOMDEGRESTRENGTH.IMG, GGMRO_120_GEOID_90.IMG, and GGMRO_120_GEOIDERR_90.IMG.
In ODE, these products have one of the following Product IDs:
GMM3_120_DEGREESTRENGTH.IMG
GMM3_120_GEOID_90.IMG
GMM3_120_GEOIDERR_90.IMG
Note:
In GGMRO*.lbl labels, "MAP_SCALE" is defined as "N/A". GDAL could not recognize the pixel size and failed in its conversion with gdal_translate command when converting a PDS IMG to another format. If you define "MAP_SCALE" with a real number nnn. The value of nnn could be calculated based on the value of Mars RADIUS and MAP_RESOLUTION defined in the label file (nnn = Mars RADIUS*pi()/180/MAP_RESOLUTION). Then GDAL would do the correct translation after this change. The method could be applied to all ggmro* labels without a definition of MAP_SCALE.
